About Us

We are very passionate about breeding and raising the best Cockapoo puppies possible. Here is where you can learn more about us - click any of the headings below to see the text.

Sugarbear is managed by Renee & Jeremiah Moore. We've both grown up in the country, with youths spent feeding cows and raising orphan kittens. Starting in 2003 my (Renee's) family began breeding Standard Poodles, and I was hooked! Standard poodles are a little too big to be lap dogs though, so when I met my first Cockapoo I was in love with the breed, size, and temperament. The lack of shedding was another wonderful plus to these adorable dogs. My first litter of Cockapoos was in 2009 with a Cocker Spaniel named Brittany. Unfortunately due to life and school I wasn't able to continue breeding for long. When I met my husband Jeremiah and we married and moved to our country house, I knew it was the perfect time to begin breeding Cockapoos once more. Our first dogs were Lettie & Jojo, F1 Cockapoos, followed shortly by Kip, and in the following years Mira & Reba.

On the Dams Page you will have seen Journey & Sundae, those beautiful Cocker Spaniels are owned by my sister Valerie Ackley. She has Cockapoo puppies with them in affiliation with Sugarbear and the puppies are posted here. Just like me, Valerie grew up around dogs and has gone into the dog business as well-Owning a busy grooming shop where she takes her dogs to work with her.

We wouldn't have any puppies if it weren't for our amazing Mother dogs - but there's a great deal of day-to-day work and financial investment in our dogs. Our entire years budget of money and time devoted to the dogs comes from our 4-5 litters a year. The price is thus reflective of an entire year of care and expenses.

Here are some of those expenses:
Veterinary care for annual checkups, vaccinations, medical concerns that arise for Moms
Veterinary checkup and vaccinations for Puppy.
High quality dog food and supplements for the entire year for Mom.
Construction and Maintenance of Buildings and Fences
Bathing and Grooming Monthly for Moms
Preventative Medicine for Mom (Flea Preventative, Dewormer, Heartworm Preventative)
Whelping Supplies
Adult Dog Enrichment (New toys, chews, bedding)
Puppy Supplies (New toys, chews, bedding)

Our dogs are family, and each time a litter is due I get excited to meet our newest arrivals. "Puppy Watch" begins in the days leading up to our girls due date, and we'll schedule to stay home or take her with us anywhere we go. Having puppies is a natural process and our moms do an amazing job, but we always want to be there to provide any assistance if needed. Sometimes all they need from us is a reassuring "You're the best mommy ever" as they nuzzle their newest little one. We're so proud of our little puppies as we learn their colors and markings, discussing names as we look forward to weeks spent watching them grow into playful, tail wagging puppies. Even after several years it never ceases to amaze me how fast they'll grow up.

Our moms will have their puppies in our living room, but a bustling house with curious cockapoos peering into the whelping box can be too much for a brand new mom. To give mom the quiet privacy she needs we've built a Nursery for our new moms, where they can take care of their little ones in peace. The moms love having nothing to worry about as they focus all their attention on their puppies for the first weeks of their life. Air conditioning and heating keeps it a comfortable temperature all year round. While they puppies are in the Nursery we handle them several times a day. Because mom trusts us she has no concerns about us getting in our daily puppy cuddles. As the puppies ears open we begin to play a Puppy Socialization CDs of sounds that they'll hear as adults such as city traffic, thunderstorms, and even babies crying. We clean our Nursery meticulously, with bedding being changed twice a day and litterboxes introduced at 2-3 weeks to help the puppies learn to keep their sleeping area clean. Later on the puppies will follow mom outside into the grass pens and have a head start on housetraining as they watch and learn. While nursing our moms will be eating much more than their normal amount, and we supplement with calorie boosters, canned food, and vitamins. Our goal is to have our Moms back to their pre-pregnancy weight by the time their puppies are weaned.

Our girls will have 3-4 litters while they're here with us, with special attention paid to their health when deciding if they're ready to breed again. Having puppies takes a lot of energy and nutrients so we always want to be sure they're healthy and bouncing back quickly from nursing puppies. When they are around 4 Years old they're spayed and will either stay here with us or go to wonderful pet homes where they can spoiled like they deserve.

You may notice that in our pictures the dogs are always fluffy and groomed. Beginning in 2008 I started learning how to groom dogs, and over the years I've groomed professionally in several of our local grooming shops and veterinaries. Now I make sure all of our dogs are always looking their best! Grooming the dogs is a wonderful way to check them all over for any skin irritants or ear problems as I bathe and blow dry them. By being proactive with ear cleaners we've been blessed to be ear infection free, even with our dog's longer drop ears. Living in the country with so much acreage we have to take parasite prevention very seriously and keep our dogs on Bravecto, a 3-month flea preventative that we highly recommend.

Here at Sugarbear, we believe that active dogs are healthy dogs. Our dogs are divided into play groups of 2-3 dogs based on their personalities, and go out to play several times a day. In summer the girls prefer to come hang out inside with us, and in cooler weather they can't get enough of playing fetch in our 3-acre backyard. Since that is larger than the size of two football fields we never have to worry about throwing a ball over the fence where they can't find it. On nice evenings the girls enjoy an off-leash walk down by the creek bed. The dogs have a favorite 1/2 mile long path back onto family property, lined by cotton and corn fields. The entire walk is spent exploring, sniffing out rabbit trails, and chasing each other through the tall grass. When we return at dusk the tired and happy girls are ready for bedtime.

In 2019 we used our Christmas Break to finish constructing a new building for our puppy-free adults when they're not hanging out with us in the house. That way no one has to crated when we're gone at work. Here at Sugarbear "Sleeping in the Dog House" is a good thing! This new building has over 1,500 Square feet of grass pens. The large runs allow us to never crate any of our dogs, instead they always have plenty of room to move around, deciding when and where they want to spend their time. They can be outside watching the entire property from their Treehouse or inside in the air conditioning busy with a chew toy.
